HARRY STYLES LIQUID SKY POSTER

This piece really pushed me to stretch my illustration skills and abilities. The whole piece utilizes a large number of layers containing vector art. It was especially challenging positioning the features of his face properly.

This poster is used for marketing materials to promote the Harry Styles Liquid Sky Show at Fiske Planetarium in Boulder, CO and was composed during my time as Social Media Specialist. Liquid sky shows at the planetarium give audiences the chance to experience music from their favorite artists while accompanied by large moving graphics and animations projected on to the 8k digital planetarium dome. The target audience and demographic of this piece is primarily college students.

INSPIRATION IMAGES:

The following images were found on Google Images and Pinterest.

The following images are of the many inspirations I pulled from for this piece. The poster is filled with references to Style's clothes from his most recent tour Love on tour, music videos from the Harry's House Album such as the little robot from the Satellite music video.

I thought the concept of a Harry Styles show was perfect for the planetarium as so many of his songs referenced space, this made it fairly easy to incorporate elements of space into the poster including mars at the base of the poster, the shooting star, starry sky, moon, and astronaut suit

LAYER-BY-LAYER VISUALIZATION

Many of the colors picked for this poster were the palette being used for the Love on Tour marketing. I wanted to reference it here and there in the poster. These colors are mainly used in the little hearts above the satellite and the robot as well as in the console on the chest of Harry's space suit.

The blue used in the panels of the satellite and the Harry's pearl necklace are also a reference to the Love on Tour Marketing.

The other colors on the poster were chosen through color picker and I tried to go for grays and oranges that complimented the existing palette.

I really liked the style of this album art for Snoh Aalegra's Feels album by Joseph McDermott. I liked the comic styling of the poster and a space theme which I had been planning to center my poster around because of Harry's music and the show being presented at a planetarium.

In the poster, you can see Harry has a black heart on the left sleeve of his space suit. This is a reference to one Harry's real tattoos. I wanted to add in a niche reference for avid Harry Styles fans.

Another reference I wanted to include for Harry Styles enthusiasts was a pearl necklace which can be seen in the poster. Harry has been seen wearing pearls in some photoshoots and throughout Love on tour.

FIRST SKETCHES AND DRAFTS

Below is a picture of my process. In Illustrator I pasted my initial sketch and began working on the vector art by tracing the base sketch I had made. This helped me significantly with getting proportions right especially with Astronaut Harry Styles.

Above is my first sketch of the poster which I used as the foundation for my vector illustration. I could visualize a lot of the poster in my head and as I tried to get it down on to paper this is how it turned out.
